Without knowing exactly what Iris endures, he manages to read her so incredibly well that he acts on her time, not his. I don’t know how he managed to continue to wait for Iris to be ready for him, but the wholesome integrity that he puts on display page after page is a tribute to the men that help women heal after escaping their oppressors.
